Pensioners on the payroll of the Ogun State Government and 20 Local Governments across the state have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the release of N6.7 Billion for payment of some of the inherited outstanding gratuities
Chairman of the State Council of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Comrade (Chief) Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Comrade (Dr.) Bola Lawal in a jointly signed appreciation letter to the governor through the office of the State Head of Service, obtained by Edu-Biznews, explained that N3.2 billion of the release amount was being used for payment of gratuities to some of the affected retirees in the State Civil Service while N3.5 billion was for payment of their counter part in the 20 Local Governments in the state
The payment according to the union, will further reduce the backlog of accrued Gratuities and bring great relief and succor to many individuals and families.
The union in the letter described the release of the amount as demonstration of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration's commitment to the welfare of the Senior Citizens whose entitlements have been denied over the years.
" We are deeply grateful for the milk of Godly kindness and generosity in you towards us, the Elderly", they stated
The union however used the medium to appeal to the governor to approve the much awaited Consequential Increase in Pensions of the long standing Pensioners in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions, saying doing so will enable their members to cope with the current economic realities and enable them to purchase required drugs for their various health challenges ravaging them as Elders.
The union appreciated the Abiodun's administration for prompt payment of the monthly pension which has greatly aided members to purchase essential drugs for their health needs, pledging to continue to collaborate with his administration to take the State to a greater height

Oloyede, the Executive Council and the entire membership of the Nigeria Union Of Pensioners, Ogun State Council, hereby express heartfelt appreciation to our loving and compassionate Pensioners-friendly Executive Governor, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the approval and release of a total sum of *N6.7 Billion (Six Billion, Seven Hundred Million Naira only) to the Ogun State Pensioners* (State and Local Government: N3.2 Billion to State Pensioners; and N3.5 Billion to Local Government Pensioners.) Thereby further reducing the backlog of accrued Gratuities.

We also express immense appreciation for the various palliatives and subsidies directed towards us, Pensioners in the recent past to cushion the effects of the present harsh economic realities. Your Excellency, we wish to make use of this opportunity to humbly make this passionate appeal to you for your benevolent approval of the much awaited Consequencial Increase in Pensions of the long standing Pensioners in line with the 2019 Federal Government Circular on Consequential Adjustment of Pensions, towards which a Committee was set up at your instance on the 19th July 2022. This is to enable most of the Pensioners, the financial wherewithal at the present economic downturn to purchase required drugs for the various health challenges ravaging the Elderly.
