Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has inspected facilities at both the Department of Chemical Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering on Epe campus of the Lagos State University for accreditation of the academic programmes
The Accreditation team of COREN had
arrived the campus of the university for a 3-day Outcome-Based Education (OBE) visit to assess the quality of academic programmes in the two departments
On arrival, the team paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, who was ably represented by the Head of Campus, Epe, Prof. Elkanah Oyetunji. Prof. Olatunji warmly received the delegates in his office at the Epe Campus.
The head of the accreditation team, Prof. Fadare David Abimbola, reiterated COREN's mandate to regulate the practice of engineering in all Nigerian institutions.
He explained that this is achieved through the determination of academic standards and accreditation of engineering programmes offered in training institutions across the country.
Prof Fadare who appealed for the university’s full cooperation during the visit, emphasised that the OBE system had recently been adopted for accreditation exercises
Speaking further, Prof. Fadare commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, for placing engineering high on her agenda and expressed hope that the momentum would be sustained
He stated that a robust and well-developed Faculty of Engineering would not only elevate the university’s prestige but also contribute significantly to national development, as engineering remains a vital pillar for societal progress.
The Head of Campus, Prof. Elkanah O. Oyetunji formally handed the COREN' Resource Assessment Team to the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. N. A. Raji, who conducted the members on the assessment visit to the relevant facilities.
