Ogun State Government has called on residents of the State to collaborate with government in delivering the best and formidable National Sports Festival, tagged, “Gateway Games, 2024”.
The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka made the call while fielding questions from journalists after facilities tour of the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto and the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, both in Abeokuta
He urged residents to keep portraying the State in good light, be hospitable to visitors and come all out to show their unalloyed support to Team Ogun, promising that maximum security would be provided for all.
Hon. Isiaka revealed that the festival was not organised by the Ministry of Sport Development alone, as other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government (MDAs) were involved, to deliver the best Sports Festival ever, noting that preparation towards the festival had reached a crescendo.
The Commissioner assured residents that government would ensure the availability of a system that would sustain the facilities beyond the festival, submitting that the facilities was not just in place for the purpose of the festival alone, but for the good use of the people of the State.
“The preparation is going on very well, and the stage we are presently is to dot the ‘I’s’ and cross our ‘T’s, of course you can see the level of preparation all around the various venues to be used. It is not too good to plan and execute these projects and afterwards the facilities become moribund, so the State government is not putting the facilities in place just for the competition, we want to create a very strong and solid sport and sporting system in Ogun State,” he said.
