Sen.Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressive Congress APC has been sworn- in as new governor of Edo State, with a promise to always support small scale businesses to thrive and prioritize welfare of residents in the state
Okpebholo was inaugurated as the governor of the state in a ceremony held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Tuesday, almost two months after winning the poll, defeating his closest rival, Peoples Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo and other candidates in the September 21, 2024 guber poll
“The welfare of our citizens is top priority for us” and give preference to supporting small businesses", he assured
Governor Okpebholo vowed that his administration would improve on the security situation, so as to create conducive atmosphere for farming and other business activities to flourish
“Our administration will be firm in dealing with criminals and improve the security of our land so that farming and other business activities will flourish again"
He also decried the state of roads in the state, expressing readiness of his administration to fix them to ease the movement of people and goods from one place to another
“The deplorable condition of our roads has made it difficult for people to move from one part of the State to another.”
Governor Okpebholo expressed his appreciation to the people for the mandate given to him and his running mate, promising not to betray them
“Today, you have officially given me the mandate to preside over our dear State as Governor for the next four years,”
“We will not betray this confidence you have reposed in me and the Deputy Governor, Rt. Honourable Dennis Idahosa.
”The governor thanked the people of the state for their support during the governorship election of September 21 in which he defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Asue Ighodalo and other candidates.
“Let me start by thanking God Almighty for His grace and incredible blessings. Democracy has triumphed again in our dear State,” the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the election told the gathering.
“For me, this is a humbling moment; made possible by you all. Again, I want to use this opportunity to thank you for your peaceful conduct during the 21st September 2024 Governorship Election.”
