Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS), in partnership with Joint Tax Board (JTB), has launched the 2025 Single Interstate Road Tax Sticker (SIRTS), as part of its efforts to ensure optimal revenue generation, reduce multiple road stickers and encourage ease of doing business within and outside the State
Executive Chairman of the revenue agency, Mr. Olugbenga Olaleye speaking at the launch held with vendors at OGIRS' Conference room, Oke - Mosan, Abeokuta, said every initiative would want to pose a challenge, but there must always be an amicable solution to it.
Olaleye emphasized the need for the yearly launch of the stickers that was introduced in 2022 to create awareness and showcase the features embedded in it in order to demystify the risk of selling illegal ones to unsuspecting public while hinting that the year 2025 stickers possess new features that make it different from that of last year.
The OGIRS boss who was represented by the Director, Field Operations, Mr. Hezekiah Sobayo, corrected the notion that JTB was responsible for the collection of revenues, revealing that the Board was only saddled with the responsibility of coordinating revenue and regulating the processes involved in the collection of taxes.
"For any initiative, there would be challenges, we are partners in progress, we must come together to make Ogun State and Nigeria better. We will also work with the vendors to minimize the challenges they are facing regarding the sale of the stickers," he said.
Earlier, Director, Other Taxes, Mrs. Oluyomi Dawodu expressed gratitude to the vendors for their cooperation and tolerance since the commencement of the sale of SIRTS, revealing that OGIRS, Ministry of Environment and all the 20 Local Governments across the state already have an existing collaboration regarding the sale of the stickers, appealing to vendors to ensure that all stickers sold to motorists should be duly registered for proper administration and compliance.
In their remarks, the vendors' representatives, Messrs. Niyi Adebanjo and Jamiu Bello appreciated OGIRS and JTB for the initiative and continuous support, promising that vendors would take the necessary steps to see that this year's sales bring more revenue to government coffers, while encouraging the agency to look into the inter and intra states challenges faced on the sale of stickers.
