Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC)has asked Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates contesting the November 16, 2024 election into the State's 20 Local Governments to justify the recent financial autonomy granted by the Supreme Court by focusing available resources on developmental projects for the benefits of people, if elected at the poll
Secretary General of the State Muslim Council, Alhaji kamaldeen Akintunde gave the charge on Sunday in Abeokuta,during interaction with some of the candidates contesting the local councils' election, organized by Egba zone of OMC as part of activities for its formal inauguration of Abeokuta North Local Government chapter of the council
The State Muslim Council's Scribe who cautioned against the abuse of such financial autonomy, stressed the need to ensure accountability in the management of allocation being received directly on monthly basis from the federation account, by giving attention to rural roads development, providing basic medical infrastructure at Primary Health Centres and upgrading facilities at local markets in their respective local council areas for people to feel direct impact of governance at the local level
"You must ensure accountability in the management of financial resources for the purposes of developing the local council areas for the benefits of the people ", he stated
Alhaji Akintunde also tasked the newly inaugurated executive committee of Abeokuta North Local Government chapter on the need to work closely with both leadership of the Egba zone and that of the State Muslim Council to collectively achieve the common goals of moving Islam forward in the state
Similarly Chairman of the Egba zone of OMC, Alhaji Tunji Kalejaiye emphasized the importance of members giving the needed support to the newly inaugurated executive committee for its overcome challenges and succeed in the task ahead
Alhaji Kalejaiye also stressed the need for physical presence of members in the zone from Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South, Ewekoro, Odeda, Ifo and Obafemi-Owode Local Government Areas at the formal fund raising for construction of the proposed Ultra Modern Islamic Centre , holding at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library auditorium on November 9, 2024 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
General Secretary of the zone, Abdulfatah Adigun explained that the essence of interaction with candidates contesting the forthcoming local councils poll, was to provide a platform for Muslims to engage contestants on their campaign programmes and how such can better the living condition of people, if elected
Also speaking, Chairman of the new executive committee of Abeokuta North Local Government chapter of OMC, Alhaji Mushfau Alaran assured the leadership of both the State Muslim Council and zone of the readiness of the committee members to rededicate themselves to the service of Allah
"To all the newly inaugurated Executive Members, the task at hand will require a lot from us , our time, energy and money. I urge you all to embrace the Clarion call to serve Allah as a pathway to the attainment of His pleasure. Together we must strive to reposition the Muslim Ummah in order to foster greater unity, propagate Islam and recommit to the welfare of the Muslim within our jurisdiction, while upholding the golden principles of the Shariah in all our endeavour throughout our tenure and beyond", he charged fellow committee members
Alhaji Alaran, a Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, quoting relevant chapter and verses in the holy Quran, equally called for the collective support of members of the chapter to collectively achieve the tasks ahead
