Ogun Govt To Companies - Priotise Employment Of Residents In Your Host Communities

 

Ogun State Government has admonished various companies within its 20 local government areas to always give priority to employment of qualified residents of their host communities for job opportunities, so as to further promote cordial relationship with people in the locations of their operations.

The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, gave the admonition when he hosted the management staff of Hayat Kimya Nigeria Limited, led by its Country Manager, Mr. Omotayo Olatunji, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta

Sofela, who expressed delight with the decision of the parent country of the multinational to make Mr. Olatunji the first indigenous Country Manager, described the move as a demonstration of trust which must not be taken for granted.

"We really appreciate your parent country for the trust reposed in you. It is a pointer to their confidence in Nigeria and Ogun State”, he said.

He underscored the benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), urged companies to endeavour to know the needs of their host to ascertain areas of intervention without having to think for them.

The Commissioner, who said the determination of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government in the state was to create an enabling environment where businesses would thrive, while government’s huge investment in security remains a reference point, assured that the on-going infrastructural revival in the three Senatorial Districts of the state would further assist companies in transporting their goods without hitches.

"It is indeed important for various companies operating in our state to prioritise qualified residents of their host communities. It is a way to promote cordial relationship and tackle unemployment", he said.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Olu. Ola. Aikulola, said Ogun as the industrial capital of Nigeria, would not leave any stone unturned towards promoting shared prosperity, promising that the Ministry as a major stakeholder in the affairs of businesses, would continue to interface with relevant government agencies to address issues affecting industries.

Earlier, Mr. Olatunji had commended the present administration for its various policy initiatives, which he said were in the right direction, just as he described Ogun as one of the safest states in the country
