Mr. Mathew Alawode Ayedun has emerged as new Olu of Orile Imo in Obafemi -Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State with a promise to his business connection to attract more investors to fasttrack development of the town
Ayedun who polled six votes was elected on Tuesday to fill the vacant stool after beating other four contestants including Dr. Olakunle Joseph who scored two votes, Mr. Shogaolu Oluwanmbe, Dr. Oluwadairo Adeleke and Aroyeweun Akeem Abiodun in selection process conducted by the kingmakers of Orile Imo, which constituted Iwarefa Ogboni and Iwarefa Olorogun
The highly elated Oba-elect appreciated his election by majority of good people of Imo home and abroad, assuring them of his commitment to execution of more developmental projects for the benefit of the town
He unfolded his plan to invite more investors and Orile-imo sons and daughters from the diaspora to come home and invest, so as to boost socio-economic activities of the town
The selection committee members who conducted the process included Lukotun Imo Olusola Otesile, Chief Osanyintola Odunayo Lipebi of Imo, and Akanbi Shakiru Ogboye of Imo
Chairman of the committee, Chief Olusola Otesile described the selection process which included contestants from five ruling families,Lisa , Isalu ilukan , Odofin , Aro and Ijigun as free and fair.
He explained that the selection process was strictly inline with the Oba and Chief's Law 2021
"The process was in line with the Oba and Chief's Law of Ogun State 2021, and Orile Imo traditional council on August 2023 received a letter from Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo the President of Egba traditional council to ensure that a preferred candidate of the people is selected"
He asserted that his role conducting the selection had been fulfilled, the next action for him is to write a report on the process to Imo Township Traditional Council and they will forward it to the appropriate quarters for the record.
The selection process was held today at the Orile Imo town hall where all stakeholders and indigenes of the town converged to elect a new Oba after six years without a monarch in the town.
Earlier before the commencement of the election, the Odofin of Imo Engr. Hakeem Adeshina stated that the township has the support of all authorities to conduct the selection process, adding that whatever the outcome may be, all indigenes of the town must support whoever wins.
Adeshina Maintained that the town has been in the process for the past six years, appreciating God for the support of all the relevant authorities for the selection process to be held.
He added those who contested had been thoroughly screened, noting that all the candidates are bonafide sons of Oril-Imo town
Adeshina called on the fellow contestants to support Oba-elect , in order to jointly work for the peace and progress of Orile Imo.
