Ogun State Government has stressed the need for Nigerians to always promote Made-In-Nigeria products, so as to further improve on the patronage of locally manufactured products in the market and spur manufacturers to prioritise quality, thereby positively impacting the country’s economy.
The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Adebola Sofela, made this known in Abeokuta, during a Sensitization Forum on Promotion of Patronage of Made-In-Nigeria Products and Services, with the theme, “Buy Made-in-Nigeria Products and Services for Patriotism, Industrialisation and Job Creation”, organised by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Mr. Sofela, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Commerce, Mr. Kehinde Omitogun, lauded the Federal Government initiative on promotion of locally made brands
Nigerians according to the State Government, stand the chance of benefitting a lot economically from embracing the campaign to boost industrialisation.
“This programme will therefore provide the stakeholders in different production and manufacturing value-chain and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), other factors, as well as consumers, the opportunity to meet and share knowledge and information on market prospects and how to be competitive by producing quality products”, he said.
He called on relevant stakeholders to work with government towards actualising objectives of the campaign.
Contributing, Director, Commodities and Export Department, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Kaura Irimiya, said local manufacturers need to leverage Nigeria’s huge population by making quality their watchword, so as to erase fears in some quarters regarding low standard of made in Nigeria products.
Irimiya, who was represented by an official of the Ministry, Mr. Rimam Kafiya, stated that, “this is very critical since the marketability of products and services is a function of competitiveness, not only in the local market but also globally. When the quality of locally produced products and services rivalled their foreign counterparts, it will apparently end the assertions always advanced by some Nigerians, who ascribed the reason for their preference for foreign goods to the inferiority of local alternatives”.
In their separate remarks, State Coordinators, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mr. Biodun Awoliyi and Mrs. Fransisca Odega, respectively, said Nigerians need to patronise locally manufactured products to aid the growth of MSMEs, grow the country’s economy, create jobs for unemployed youths and boost security, among other benefits, assuring that their organisations were open to small business owners and intending exporters.
