Akwa United of Uyo continued their fight to survive relegation, after their 3-1 humiliation of the defending champions, Enyimba International of Aba in a week 23 match of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played on Monday
The homeside took the lead in the seventh minute through Philip before Suleiman increased the tally in the 51st minute against the visiting Aba Elephants
Top Striker, Mbaoma however reduced the margin for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 75th minute before the Suleiman grabbed the brace five minutes into the stoppage time
Akwa United are currently on 17th position with 24points after the impressive win against Enyimba whose title chase has been halted , leaving them in the fifth position with 39points
Kano Pillars also failed to improve on their fortune in the topflight league,as they fell at home to the visiting Abia Warriors who won by a lone-goal to occupy eight position with 33points while the Pillars remain in sixth position with 36points , despite the loss
Doma United of Gombe and visiting Sport Lagos settled for a goal less to place ninth and 12th positions with 33points and 28points respectively
The top four teams , Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Plateau United of Jos, Enugu Rangers and Remo Stars are still maintaining their positions with 42points, 41points, 40points and 39 points
Relegation threatened Gombe United currently in the 19th position with 21points will be trading tackles with the visiting Shooting Stars of Ibadan occupying 11th position with 30points in a rescheduled week 23 match on Tuesday
