Ogun State Government has partnered with the World Bank, as part of moves
to ensure complete rehabilitation of
the eight technical colleges across the state, so as to make them compete favourably with others across the globe
Acting Executive Secretary of the State Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), Mr. Akinleye Olubori, made this known in Ayetoro, during one of the inspection visits with some prospective contractors, saying the exercise which involves Ogun State Transformation Economic Project (OGSTEP), was towards repositioning the technical education sector.
Olubori stressed the importance of youths embracing skill acquisition, saying the younger generation are the hope of tomorrow
He added that there was a need for youths to be resourceful, appreciating Governor Dapo Abiodun for giving special attention to technical education in the state.
According to him, "Youths should not wait for white collar jobs but acquire skills that will make them employers of labour and reduce the rate of unemployment in the country".
Speaking, World Bank official on Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET), Mr. Eyo Unyime, explained that the rehabilitation would cut across the geo-political zones which would be of benefit to all citizens in the state, hinting that the technical colleges would be equipped with modern equipment and facilities to train students.
In their separate reactions, Mr. Taiwo Jimoh, Principal, Government Science Technical College, Idi-Aba and his counterpart from Ijebu-Ode, Mr. Samuel Omotola, commended government for the initiative, saying technical education in the State was set for a paradigm shift that would propel it to an enviable height.
