Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has tasked management of the Lagos State University Ojo and that of the University of Lagos, Akoka to raise the bar of hosting the 11th edition of African University Games in Nigeria, by packaging the best games ever seen in the history of Federation of African University Sports (FASU)

Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the task while receiving high-powered delegation led by the Vice-Chancellors of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello and UNILAG, Prof Folasade Ogunsola at the Lagos House in Marina, ahead of games slated to hold between 20th and 29th of September, 2024

The highly elated governor who assured the two institutions jointly hosting the sporting event of support, urged them to also reach out to the private sector and use the sporting fiesta among universities across Africa as a veritable platform for marketing Lagos as a commercial city and Nigeria as a country to the outside world

"It is Nigeria flag you are flying, all of the invited universities from different parts of Africa will be in Nigeria, it will be a thing of joy that you host the best ever FASU games ever seen. It is the first time in the history of the games that campuses of two universities will be jointly hosting the sporting event, so you should raise the bar and show how it should be done, the standard should be set", Sanwo-Olu charged

Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello had earlier explained to the governor on the rationale behind the joint hosting of the games and reasons for FASU settling for Lagos as its choice city

According to her, Lagos was chosen because of its tourism potentials, economic bouyancy and above all the very secured environment

"Lagos was chosen, because it is the centre of excellence, the most secured state in the country, they chose us because of tourist attractions available in Lagos and of course for economic bouyancy", she stated

Also Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa appreciated the governor for the support given to the Institution in ensuring successful hosting of Nigeria University Games

The Chairman, Sports Council, Prof Simeon Dosunmu and the Director of Sports, Dr. Segun Olawunmi, were also at the meeting.

The Nigeria will be hosting the games for the second time in history, after Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi hosted 20 years ago in 2004
