Heartland Beat Remo Stars 3-1,Move Up On NPFL Table





Relegation threatened Heartland of Owerri recorded a major victory over league leaders, Remo Stars of Ikenne-Remo with a hard-earned 3-1 win in week 16 match of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played on Thursday

Leading scorer in Nigeria's top flight league, Sikiru Alimi's goal in the 69th minute had cancelled out the homeside lead through penalty spot from Anyanwu in the 50th minute of the crucial match played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, before two quick goals within the stoppage time in the 94th and 96th from Okafor and Ike secured the third win and needed maximum three points for the Naze Millionaire

With the result Heartland now moved up the ladder from bottom to 17th position with 16points while Remo Stars despite the loss are still at the summit of NPFL with 29 points with a superior goals difference of plus nine ahead of Lobi Stars of Makurdi who moved from  third to second position with same points after managing a lone-goal win against visiting Niger Tornadoes of Minna who are in the 18th position battling to survive  relegation  with 16 points

Doma United of Gombe dropped from second position to third on the table with 28 points, after their  2-0 loss to homeside, Sunshine Stars of Akure who are currently in the tenth position with 21points 

Defending champions Enyimba International of Aba moved up to the fourth position with 26points after their 2-1 win on the road against Bayelsa United in Yenegoa who are languishing at the bottom of the table with just 14points, while Plateau United of Jos are in the fifth position with 25points, after their lone-goal win against the visiting Sport Lagos who are occupying 15th position with 17points 

Sixth placed Kano Pillars with 25points defeated hard-fighting Kwara United of Ilorin 2-1 who are currently in the 12th
 position with 19points while Bendel Insurance occupying seventh position with 24points settled for one-all draw in Port Harcourt with homeside Rivers United who are currently in the 16th position with 16points 

Abia Warriors moved up to the eight position on the table with 23points, after a 3-1 win against visiting Gombe United who dropped to the 14th position with 19points, while Enugu Rangers improved on the table, moving to the tenth position with 22points after their 2-0 victory over arch rivals, Shooting Stars of Ibadan who dropped to the 13th position with 19points 

Katsina United occupying 11th position with 20points defeated Akwa United of Uyo by a lone-goal, to further compound the woes of their opponents who are currently in the 19th position, swimming  in relegation water with just 15points
