Ogun Govt Seeks Support Of Professional Bodies To Forestall Building Collapse

Ogun State Government  has sought the support of organised professional bodies in promoting the “build right” policy and processes of the present administration, to further ensure early identification of defective buildings and prevent the incessant building collapse in the country

The State Commissioner for  Physical Planning and Urban Development, Town Planner Olatunji Odunlami made the call  while playing host to a delegation from Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Odunlami said expertise skills and professionalism in the built industry were essential for immediate identification of problematic buildings for effective intervention, affirming that partnership with the Building Collapse Protection Guild (BCPG) had brought numerous defective structures to the attention of the regulatory bodies.

According to him, “Ogun State is the first and only State in Nigeria to partner with organised professional group to ensure very sound building production and monitoring processes.  I want to use this opportunity to call on members of your institute, and other professionals in the sector, to join BCPG to help us serve as vanguards in the fight against building collapse in the State’’.

Also speaking, the Chairman, NIOB Ogun State Chapter, Builder Adeleke Ademola, appreciated the Commissioner and the Ministry, for giving professional relevance to builders in the State through the establishment of the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority, pledging the backing of the institute to policies and programmes of the government, to make the environment free of building collapse.
