The Supreme Court has again extended the lifespan of the old naira notes of 200, 500 and 1000 redesigned late last year, whose validity is expected to end by 31st of December, 2023
Edu-Biznews recalled that the Nigeria's apex court had earlier in March of this year ordered the extension of the validity of the old naira notes till end of this year, following a botched currency redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the erstwhile former governor, Godwin Emefiele
But the Federal Government through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi SAN filed fresh application for extension of the order which the court sitting in Abuja , granted on Wednesday
In October last year, the CBN began the currency swap policy that caused monumental hardship on Nigerians across the country.
To ameliorate the difficulties, many states governments sued the federal government, urging the Supreme Court to reverse the monetary policy.
