Each of the 18 Female players of Football Team, from African Church Grammar School in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, has been awarded N2.7Million worth of scholarship as reward for winning the National Maiden Edition of the Nigeria Secondary Schools Flag Football tournament, tagged, "Aketi 2023", by the founder Global Wealth University, based in Lome, Togo, to enhance their academic achievement.
The terms of the agreement of the scholarship include possession of 5 credits in 0'level results, 4 years’ duration of Bachelor of Science Degree Awards at the Global Wealth University in Togo and the validity would be 24 months after the beneficiaries have completed their Secondary School Programmes.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu during the presentation of the Scholarship documents in Abeokuta, lauded the donor, Prof. Imumolen for his contribution to human capital development in Africa.
Arigbabu noted that the generosity was in tandem with the "Building Our Future Together" Agenda of Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration, saying the donation was an investment that would linger in the memory of the beneficiaries.
He enjoined learners to combine academics with sports, in order to have a well-balanced life, adding that investment in knowledge would help them improve their skills, careers, and pursuit in life which will thereby upgrade their expertise.
The Special Adviser expressed gratitude to the management of African Church Grammar School for working tirelessly to transform the lives of the learners and for being recurrent on the table of outstanding performances in both academics and sports, appreciating the coaching crew for their experience.
Presenting the documents on behalf of the donor, the General Secretary of the Flag Football, Mr. Lawrence Ojiade stated that Ogun State had proven to be a true champion in sports generally, acknowledging that if the learners can keep up the spirit of sportsmanship, especially in flag football and balance sports with academics, they would be drafted into American National Football League.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Southwest Chairman, Nigeria School Sports Federation, who also doubles as the Director of School Sports in Ogun State, Comrade Olarotimi Okeleye, revealed that the Gold Medalists apart from the scholarship were given 750 thousand naira as a winning bonus.
