Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB),Obong of Calabar, Edidem Expo Okon has asked Nigeria's President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately reconstitute Governing Councils for all the Federal Government's Universities in the country for more effective running of the institutions by government
The Chancellor who made plea over the weekend during the 30th Convocation of FUNAAB on its main campus at Alabata in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, also appealed to the Federal Government to reverse its decision on the scrapping of the courses in the College of Management Sciences in the university to make the institution more vibrant
The monarch who Congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in February 2023 Presidential poll, said most of the principal officers in the Federal Universities would be completing their tenure in office as members of the Governing Councils, stressing the need for their replacement with reconstitution of the new Councils for more effective running of these institutions in the country on behalf of the government
The Obong while commending the effort of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Olusola Kehinde for sustaining the tradition of academic excellence in the institution, also made a strong case for the reinstatement of Management Science Courses offered by the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta which was later scrapped by the government
The Grand Patriarch of Efik Eburutu Kingdom said the reinstatement of the Management Science Courses in FUNAAB would enable the institution to make university education available to more students seeking admission
He also added that it would make FUNAAB rated as number one public university in Nigeria, more relevant in the development of human capital in the area of Management Science
The university during the week long convocation activities which ended over the weekend, graduated a total of 2,823 graduands with first degrees , 16 Post Graduate Diploma students as well as 215 Master's Degrees and 113 Ph.D in various fields
