NUC Praises Babcock University For Producing Entrepreneurs ...Seeks More Support To Sustain Innovation In Varsity System






National Universities Commission has praised the management of Nigeria's first generation of private tertiary institutions, Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State for its commitment to producing business entrepreneurs, pledging to continue to support the university and others for training of more graduates equipped with the knowledge and abilities needed to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century and support the country's  sustainable development 

Acting Executive Secretary of NUC, Chris Maiyaki gave the commendation at the 2023 Convocation of the university, made reference to Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi, who graduated from the university and went on to start Paystack, a global financial technology platform.

Represented by former Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof.Oluwatoyin Ogundipe , the NUC boss expressed commitment of the Federal Government to sustain the university system's leadership in development and innovation 

"It is encouraging to see that Babcock University is strong in creating entrepreneurial minds, as demonstrated by Shola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi, who graduated from the university and went on to start Paystack, a global financial technology platform"', he lauded 

"The Federal Government is still dedicated to working in collaboration with universities like Babcock University to maintain our educational system's leadership in development and innovation. Together, we must endeavour to provide our graduates with the knowledge and abilities needed to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century and support Nigeria's sustainable development,"he assured 

NUC  also praised Babcock University for its commitment to academic success, research and community development in addition to encouragement given to students to realize full potential  

"Babcock University has maintained a commitment to academic success, research, and community involvement. Your University has fostered an atmosphere where students may explore their passions and realise their full potential by promoting a culture of innovation and critical thinking."



The NUC boss equally lauded Babcock University for producing outstanding individuals in commerce, banking and finance , politics and entertainment industry 

He applauded the academics and staff of the university for their commitment y to knowledge transfer and development of the next generation of Nigerians 

"I applaud the academics and staff for their commitment to knowledge transfer and developing tomorrow's leaders. This institution holds a special place in the heart of the nation since it was one of the first private universities to be founded and has since lived up to its reputation by producing outstanding individuals in the fields of commerce, banking, government, politics, academia, entertainment, etc," he applauded. 

The Executive Secretary of NUC expressed the readiness of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration's commitment for provision of the needed infrastructure for cutting edge demand driven research l

"It is essential that our universities keep adapting to meet the shifting demands of our society in the constantly changing environment of higher education. By implementing policies and making significant expenditures aimed at bolstering our higher education institutions, the Federal Government, and in fact the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, are prepared to transform the educational landscape. The President is passionate about promoting infrastructure development and providing funds for cutting-edge, demand-driven research."

"To solve the ongoing crisis in universities, it is also his key priority to ensure the welfare of the faculty and students at higher education institutions. Let me also add that the core of Mr. President's agenda is to help our teeming youngsters such as these graduating students to create the ideal conditions for them to develop their creative ideas into successful global enterprises. "


The National Universities Commission will continue to provide its unflinching support, while also monitoring the activities of our universities to ensure that our students and their sponsors get good value for their investments, he assured students 

Vice Chancellor/President of the university, Prof. Ademola Tayo addressing 2,480 graduands during the convocation, says, "Babcock University has always encouraged an environment of inclusivity, where diversity of thoughts and cultures enriches the learning experience"

 The Vice-Chancellor assured that the university would continue to create space  for intellectual exploration, critical thinking, and personal growth.

" Our students' success stories are a testament to the transformative power of education, and we pledge to continue our journey, striving for greater heights"

"At Babcock University, that our philosophy of holistic education is based on total development of man. Our education does not deal with just learning the facts but also training the mind to think and our hands to engage in useful and productive activities with the fear of God and service to humanity. Hence, it is about problem solving and entrepreneurship,"he stated

This according to him, "makes Babcock University perhaps the only university in Nigeria with three layers of accreditation to ensure that the institution's programmes are of international standard and its products are globally relevant."
