The Ogun state Handball Association has began its preparations for the forthcoming 2024 National Sports Festival billed to hold in the state.
The association rising from its quarterly meeting held at the Alake Sports Center, Ijeja, Abeokuta, resolve to better the feat recorded by the state Handball team at the last Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State in 2022.
The resolution after the meeting read as follows, "that the preparation for the coming National Sports Festival to be hosted by Ogun State should be intensified. Following the great success achieved at the last Festival in Asaba Delta State.
The association resolved to commence its preparation immediately by contacting the needed players, so as not to lose them to other states
Members at the meeting, agreed that contract allowance should be considered for those players that may not be beneficial of the government planned contract agreement.
The association directed its technical committee to come up with a proposed budget required to prepare and raise a formidable team capable of giving the state the two available gold medals for both male and female side in the coming festival
"It was also agreed that early open camping of the players should start at least by September 2023, while transport subsidy be considered with home base players", the association
Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier inaugurated the 16 man Local Organising Committee (LOC) members headed by former Commissioner for youth and Sports, Hon. Bukola Olopade.
The LOC is saddled with the responsibility of hosting a befitting Sports Festival which according to the governor would be the best ever.
