CAF Champions League: Enyimba, Remo Stars Crash Out As Insurance Escape Elimination

It was a tale of woes for Nigeria's flagbearers in the Total Energies CAF Champions League, Enyimba International of Aba and Remo Stars of Ikenne-Remo, as they both crashed out of the Africa's most prestigious clubs competition

They failed to take advantage of playing return leg at  home on Sunday in the two matches involving Nigeria's Champions, Enyimba, popularly known as the People's Elephants who failed to score a single goal against visiting Al Ahli Benghazi of Libya with 4-3 advantage in the first leg and Remo Stars who cancelled out the lone-goal first leg advantage of Medeama SC of Ghana in 72nd minute but lost three of the resultant five spot kicks while the Ghanaian side converted three to move to the next round

The Finidi George tutored Aba side recorded their worst outing since 2015 in the continental competition , exiting in the first round of the competition they once won twice back to back in 2003 and 2004 as the only Nigerian side to have achieved such feat

For Remo Stars tactician, Daniel Ogunmodede, it was another moment of disappointment, crashing out again in the first round of the continental competition, having failed to cross the first round in the second tier  CAF Confederation Cup during the last

It was however, a moment of joy for technical crew and players of  Insurance Football Club of Benin in the second tier CAF Confederation Cup, as the side survived  being eliminated  by Algeria's Aso Chlef who drew level at one-all on aggregate , but lost out to the Benin Arsenal 3-4 in the eventual spot kicks
