Ogun Chief Economic Adviser Asks Tertiary Institutions To Give Priority To Entrepreneurship Education


  


         
The Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State,  Mr. Dapo Okubadejo has stressed the need for educational institutions to give priority to entrepreneurship education and equip students with the necessary skills and mindset, so as to reduce the disturbing trend of unemployment and help them excel in the ever-evolving job market.

             
Okubadejo who made the call during a courtesy visit by the Local Organising Committee [LOC] for the forthcoming Ogun State Employment Conference in Abeokuta,  highlighted the significance of empowering students to leverage on technology and explore diverse opportunities


He emphasized the  need for a curriculum that fosters entrepreneurial thinking and includes technical vocational training that would enable individuals to pursue independent careers and create employment opportunities for others, thereby boosting the economy.




          
According to him, ‘’relying solely on a white-collar job is insufficient to address the high unemployment levels in the country, hence the need for shifting towards a mindset of wealth creation through entrepreneurial endeavours by equipping individuals with the required skills, knowledge, mindset and economic growth can be stimulated and job opportunities can be provided’’.

          
Earlier in his opening remark, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, and Chairman, Local Organising Committee, Mr. Olu.Ola Aikulola, commended the government for its strides in the creation of jobs and vocational training for youths, adding that the Employment Conference was meant to complement government’s efforts.

          
He stated that the sensitisation visits to important stakeholders in the State were to engage them and seek their support in tackling the menace of unemployment.

 Other personalities in attendance were the Permanent Secretaries Ministry of Finance, Mr. Adesina Towolawi and Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye respectively, State Advisor and Policy Coordinator, GIZ, Mr. Stephen Dada, President Ogun State Cooperative Federation Limited, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye, among others.
