Again, the Ogun State House of Assembly has asked the State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to always abide by the standard rule of engagement in the discharge of their official duties and avoid any act capable of leading to loss of lives and property of innocent residents, especially at border communities in the State.
Speaker of the house,Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo made the call on Tuesday in response to the submission of a member representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, Hon. Bisi Oyedele who lamented over what he described as unprofessional operations of some customs officials whom according to him conducted an illegal raid on the business premises of some residents, confiscating petroleum product purchased from the filling Station in neighbouring communities for domestic use.
Hon. Oyedele expressed concern over the directive of Federal Government which placed embargo on the sales of petroleum products within 20km to the border
He added that the directive had led to a situation where residents of border communities buy the product in kegs for personal use which are now being subjected to raiding by customs
Also at the plenary, the Obas and Chiefs’ (Amendment) Law, 2023 scaled first reading following the reading of its long title by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr.Deji Adeyemo before the State lawmakers.
