Ogun SWAN Hails Remo Stars' Historic CAF Champions League Qualification





Ogun State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the management and technical staff of Remo Stars Football Club, Ikenne-Remo for the club's  historic qualification for the prestigious CAF Champions League, just a year after playing in the CAF Confederation cup

Chairman of the association, 
Hakeem Akintunde and Secretary, 
Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji in a joint congratulatory message to the club, described the Champions League qualification within two years of returning to the elite Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), as no fluke, but as a result of rapid investment, hard work, dedication of the owner and the  entire staff of Remo Stars Football Club.

Remo Stars picked up a hard fought 1-0 win over Bendel Insurance in their final NPFL23 Super Six game at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos to claim a first-ever ticket to the CAF Champions League Competition after finishing in second position with nine points behind the eventual winners, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba who won with a superior goals difference after setting for a draw with Rivers United of Port Harcourt  

SWAN maintained that  picking up second position in the just concluded Super Six playoff with nine points same as   the league champions Enyimba was a reward of financial investment driven by passion to redefine football management in Nigeria and put Ogun state on the world map once again.

The association expressed optimism that, Remo Stars'  would make Nigerians and Ogun state proud when the competition kicks off next season 

"Permit us to congratulate you on the result of your investment in providing platform for the youths to showcase their talents and disabuse their minds against social vices through the establishment of your noble initiative, Remo Stars Football Club.

"Your team's return to the continent just a year after playing in the CAF Confederations Cup  was not a fluke, but a reward of investment, focus, hard work, dedication of the owner and entire staff of Remo Stars Football Club.

"It is with great joy and happiness that  we received the news of your qualification as the second Ogun State-based football club to have played in the African Continental Club competition since 1987 that  Abiola Babes last attended.

"The Association encourages the team to continue working with determination and motivation," the message concluded
