Ogun Assembly Workers On Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid Special..May Stall Inauguration Of 10th Legislature

Workers under the aegies of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) at the Ogun State House of Assembly are now on indefinite strike over alleged failure of the State Government to respond to their demands which includes Implementation of Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure after expiration of the three-day warning strike last Wednesday, 31st of May, 2023

State Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Ayotunde Ojediran  and Secretary, Comrade David Adedigba declared the comprehensive Industrial action in a Communique issued at the end of the union's emergency congress

The situation may take its toll on inauguration of elected members of the 10th legislature and prevent the legislative arm of government from functioning , if not resolved immediately by Govermor Dapo Abiodun

The union is also demanding for compliance of the government with the provisions of sections 10(2), 13, and 14 of the State Assembly Service Commission Law, 2018, and the Statutory Offices (State Emoluments) Amendment Law, 2018

"This non-compliance has resulted in the non-payment of due salary and allowances to some of our members since their respective dates of appointment", the union decried

"The failure of the State Government to adequately address the two demands of our members by close of work on Wednesday 31" of May, 2023 will result in the union embarking on a total, comprehensive, and indefinite strike action, commencing from the early hours of Thursday, 1st June, 2023", PASAN stated in the Communique

The union, however dismissed the isinuations that the Industrial action is politically motivated, saying the demands are simply administrative supported by provisions of law which other legislative workers are already enjoying in other states

"The Union's agitation remains apolitical, contrary to insinuations from some myopic minds. It should be logically deduced that all the issues raised are clearly administrative demands outlined by provisions of assented laws and practices, which are equally obtainable in the legislatures of other states in the Federation", the union clarified

The Industrial action according to the union is supported by its National Body who mandated the indefinite strike, since no labour friendly resolution was achieved with government, after seve
