4,673 Candidates Jostle For 350 Seats In Ogun College Of Nursing Sciences

  

 A total of 4,673 candidates who sat for the entrance examination into the Ogun State College of Nursing Sciences are jostling for only 350 available seats at the three campuses of the Institution in Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode and Ilaro

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, while supervising the conduct of the examination held in the premises of the School of Nursing and Midwifery of the College, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, revealed that only 350 successful candidates would be admitted based on available facilities

He added that the State Government had in the past few years ensured that the admission process was based on  merit 

         

Oladehinde said the entrance examination attracted candidates including both indigenes and those from outside the State, saying the College had become more attractive because of its objective and transparent admission process.

          

He stressed that only candidates who succeeded  in the computer-based examination and oral interview would be admitted, adding that gone were the days of "man-know-man" admission.

        

"The State Government had in recent years facilitated full accreditation of our nursing schools and ensured that they were under an umbrella of the College of Nursing Sciences. Our goal is to make nursing education in the State one of the best in Nigeria. If we produce excellent nurses, our country, and indeed humanity would be the better for it," he said.

         

 The Permanent Secretary added that the College would in the coming years conduct admission through the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), saying the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), had recently embarked on a verification exercise of the various Schools under the College.

          

On her part, the Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Khadijat Olayokun, said government would continue to improve the standard of nursing education, saying nurses trained in the State would be useful not only to the State but also in other parts of the country.

          

One of the Candidates, Miss Akinyele Oluwayemi, who is from Ondo State, said her choice of the College was based on its transparent admission which gave a chance to everyone, whether they are from Ogun State or not, expressing her optimism of succeeding in the examination.
