Ogun Govt Tasks Alternate Medicine Practitioners On Research For New Herbal Products




Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board has tasked alternate medicine practitioners to carry out more research that would lead to discoveries of new medicinal herbs in treating people with varied medical conditions locally as being practiced in traditional Chinese medicine.

Nurudeen Olaleye made the appeal at the graduation of batches 15th and 16th of African College of Traditional Medicine, held at the school's  Auditorium, Elekuro, Wasimi, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the State.


 According to him, a lot of new diseases are presently ravaging the world which scientific Medicine alone cannot combat.

 He added that this was what gave birth to the decision of WHO mandating all the country’s President to sign a bill that would establish Alternate Medicine under their States Ministry of Health even long before COVID-19, as an alternative means of taking care of peoples health challenges in affordable ways.

He congratulated the graduands and challenged them to bring their herbal knowledge and study of traditional medicine to bear for the treatment of diseases in society.


The Chairman described the graduands as the new dawn of herbal practices in the state, lauding the Governor's foresight for the approval of the establishment of the College of Herbal Medicine where people are allowed to study herbal practice for the health benefit of the citizenry

According to the Board Chairman, "The development and the practice of alternate Medicine has come to stay through Government's investment.

Speaking at the ceremony, the proprietor of the College, Chief Samson Soyoye, urged the graduands to register with the State Alternate Medicine Board to enable them to enjoy government support for modern practice and serve as platforms to sensitise members of the Public about the practice acceptability.


Also speaking, one of the graduands, Mr. Rotimi Ogundipe, commended the efforts of the state government for establishing the board that has brought the practice into the limelight with a modern touch, that would ensure the acceptability of herbal medicine among the citizenry.
