Trade Union Congress has demanded for further upward review of the quarterly payment of outstanding gratuities to pensioners on payroll of the Ogun State Government to N2billion, so as to enable more beneficiaries get their entitlement after serving the state for 35 years
Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier announced the increase in the quarterly payment to N1billion from the initial N600million as from first quarter of this fiscal year
But the State Chairman of TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi speaking during the celebration of the 2023 Workers Day at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto,Abeokuta, stressed the need for the Abiodun's administration to further review the quarterly payment of gratuities to retirees
"Further review of the quarterly release of ₦600m for the payment of gratuity to #2billion. We appreciate the government for increasing the quarterly release by ₦100 million", TUC pleaded
The union expressing concern on the theme of this year's celebration and supression of right of workers in the country,equally called for immediate Implementation of report of committees on contributory pension scheme and consequential adjustment in monthly pension to retirees
"The reports and subsequent implementation of the recommendations of the two committees on the Contributory Pension Scheme and Consequential Adjustment on Minimum Pension. It should be noted that in another one year and six months, the public servants under the failed CPS will start retiring. The question therefore is what will they be retiring to, emptiness?, TUC raised concern
Other demands of the union includes
release of the balance of ₦5.2 billion outstanding on workers' deductions including November and December 2022 Co-operatives deductions.
"We commend the government on the commencement of the 2023 Leave Allowance but appeal for the payment of arrears of the 2015 to 2022 Leave Allowances", the union pleaded
TUC who stressed the need for government to regularly review Implementation of agreement reached with labour in the both Memorandum of Action and Memorandum of Understanding of June 29, 2022, demanded for the 40% pay rise which it claimed are being enjoyed by workers in the Federal Government's establishments
"Reality on the once-in-a-quarter meeting promised by Your Excellency to ensure constant evaluation and assessment of all matters so as to explore the benefits of collective bargaining and promote mutual understanding between government and workers"
"We are aware that the Federal government has commenced the implementation of 40% peculiar allowance to Civil Servants effective Jan., 2023 to bridge existing wide between the public service especially federal government parastatals and corporations"
"We in Ogun state are urging Your Excellency to not just look into the possibility of a similar gesture for Ogun workers, but see that such considerations become a reality in the shortest possible time. After all, Federal Government workers and their states' counterparts visit the same markets, their children attend the same school. The #30,000 Minimum Wage cannot take any worker anywhere , the union submitted
TUC however commended the Abiodun's administration for addressing the issue of promotion arrears for four years
"In your 4-year tenure alone, workers had collected promotion letters for 2018, 2019 and 2020. Now, still within the first tenure, you have also conducted promotion exercises for 2021 and 2022 making it five years of promotion exercise in four years. This is unprecedented and workers are grateful
The governor however assured the workers that all their entitlements would be paid based on availability of the needed financial resources
