The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it has derecongnized fifty (50) schools across Ogun State for their involvement in various forms of malpractices during the conduct of the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
The Abeokuta Branch Controller of WAEC,Mr.Ayobami Suberu revealed this in an interview with Edu-biznews on the sideline of 2023 grand finale of the council's Briefing for Principals and Supervisors held at Abeokuta Grammar School on Thursday, ahead of the forthcoming WASSCE for school candidates
He added that the affected schools whose names were not disclosed would not present candidates for the period of two years, saying WAEC will continue to put in place strategies to sanitize the conduct of the examination and reduce the number of cases of malpractices
Suberu warned that the council would black list any erring school principal or supervisor caught in the act of malpractices while results of candidates involved in such unholy conduct would be outrightly cancelled
He however urged school principals, supervisors and candidates to always comply with rules and regulations guilding the conduct of the examination to ensure hitch-free exercise for this year
According to him, about 1,560 supervisors from 1,539 public and private secondary schools participated in the briefing held in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, Ota and the grand finale held in Abeokuta,the state capital
Head Of Examinations, Abeokuta Branch of WAEC , Mr. Adetunji Fasasi who conducted the briefing, stressed the need for school principals to always create conducive atmosphere for conduct of the forthcoming WASSCE, warning that they would be held responsible for any breach of peace or shortcomings observed during the conduct of the examination
He also emphasised the need for supervisors to be alive to their responsibilities as representatives of WAEC at various centres of the examination across the state, insisting that the council will not accept any excuse for failure to comply strictly with the guidelines for the conduct of examination
