Uncertainty Over Ogun Assembly's Speaker Inconclusive Poll As Deputy Speaker, Deputy Majority, Chief Whip Fail To Return

There is still uncertainty over the date for the rerun of the poll in Ifo 1 Constituency  involving Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo of the All Progressives Congress and other candidates, as no date has been fixed for fresh poll in one of the affected polling units

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the State House of Assembly poll of March 18, 2023 in the Constituency inconclusive, following over voting discovered in one of the polling units

The affected unit is 04 in ward one which is unit of the State Chairman of People's Democratic Party (PDP) ,Hon.Sikirulah Ogundele whose son Okikiola is also the candidate of the party

The returning officer for the poll, Prof Olusegun Onabanjo said Oluomo scored 7,379, his closest rival from PDP recorded 6,411 while Wemimo Owolabi of the African Democratic Congress ADC garnered 3,207 votes 

Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC in the state ,  Mr. Niyi Ijalaye Esq, however presented Certificates Of Return to winners of the remaining 25 Constituencies in the March 18, 2023 election during a ceremony held last Thursday at the State office of the electoral agency in Abeokuta

Most of the principal officers of the house including the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akeem Balogun (Ogun Waterside), Deputy Majority Leader, Hon.Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye (Sagamu 1) and Chief Whip, Mrs Atinuke Bello (Odogbolu) failed in their bid to return to the assembly, as they lost to respective opponents from the major opposition, People's Democratic Party PDP 

They are now replaced by Lawal Samusideen (Ogun Waterside), Bello Mohammed (Sagamu 1) and Adeleye Lukman (Odogbolu) who got their certificates from INEC

Other newly elected lawmakers include Tella Babatunde , APC( Abeokuta North), Lukmon Atobatele, PDP ( Abeokuta South 1), Ayodele Wasiu Sunday, APC( Abeokuta South 11),  Salami Fatiu Folawewo,APC(Ifo 11) and  Owode Waliu Ifedolapo, PDP( Ijebu East), Rasheed Kashamu, PDP( Ijebu North 1), Odunuga Kaka Ayodele, APC( Ijebu North 11), Adesanya Oluseun,PDP( Ijebu North East) as well as  Bakare Olanrewaju, APC( Ijebu-Ode) and Owodunni Babajide, PDP( Ikenne)

Following the results declared by the electoral body, only 10 out of the 26-menber House of Assembly will be returning for the tenth legislature of the house

They include the Majority Leader, Yusuff Sheriff ( Ado -Odo/Ota 1), Lamidi Musefiu (Ado-Odo/Ota 11), Adeyanju Adegoke( Yewa North 1),Wahab Haruna( Yewa North 11), Mrs. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi ( Yewa South) and Yusuff Amosun ( Ewekoro), all from APC 

Other returnees from APC are  Damilola Soneye( Obafemi-Owode), Oludaisi Elemide ( Odeda), Jemili Akingbade (Imeko-Afon) and Ademola Adeniran (Sagamu 11)

With the configuration, APC has almost two third of the members-elect with 16 lawmakers while PDP has nine members of the 26-member assembly
