Organized labour in Ogun State is concluding arrangement to formally meet with Governor Dapo Abiodun to review the implementation of the Memorandum of Action reached with the government in June, 2022 on payment of the outstanding gratuities to retirees as well as global deductions and leave bonuses amongst others to workers
Edu-biznews recalled that the governor few days to his re-election, met with workers and pensioners in Abeokuta where he approved the upward review of the quarterly payment of the outstanding gratuities to N1billion from the initial N600million being released, in addition increased the minimum monthly pension to N15,000 from N5,000 to the retirees on the payroll of the State Government
But Chairman of the State Counçil of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola in a chat with Edu-biznews over the weekend in Abeokuta, said that the leadership of the labour movement including the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Public Service Negotiating Counçil would soon meet with the governor to appraise the implementation of MOA signed with the government and propose additional increase in the quarterly payment of gratuities from the current N1billion
The NLC Chairman who said that the governor had expressed his readiness to meet with organized labour, said a letter would be sent to him to agree on when the meeting would eventually hold to address all the grey areas as regards the level of implementation of the MOA till date
According to him, the labour will be reviewing the payment of outstanding global deductions from salaries of workers, leave bonuses, consequential adjustment of monthly pension considering the minimum wage, the issue on the implementation of the contributory pension scheme amongst other contending labour issues
On the suspended nationwide strike and two weeks additional period given by the labour to the Central Bank of Nigeria to make more cash available to Nigerians, Ben-Ademola expressed satisfaction with level of compliance by commercial banks in the state, particularly in Abeokuta, the state capital and other major towns
He was optimistic that the issue of naira scarcity would be no more at the end of the two weeks ultimatum issued by the organized labour, if the CBN sustain the rate of supply of cash to the commercial banks to meet the daily needs of customers
