There has been anxiety among pensioners on the payroll of the Ogun State Government, is the as they await the quarterly payment of the N1billion promised by Govermor Dapo Abiodun which is yet to be redeemed a month after the expiration of first quarter of the 2023 fiscal year at end of April which is making the affected pensioners uncomfortable celebrating this year's Workers' day with others
Governor Abiodun days into his re-election at the March 18 governorship poll, had met with workers during which he announced the upward review of the quarterly payment of the outstanding gratuities from the initial N600million to N1billion to be paid at the end of first quarter, 2023
But Chairman of the State Counçil of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Hameed Benco-Ademola responding to the agitated retirees on a live radio programme monitored by Edu-biznews on Sunday, confirmed the delay in the quarterly release of the outstanding gratuities which ought to have been released at the end of March but still being expected
Benco-Ademola however assured the pensioners of the committment of the organized labour in championing for the release of the N1billion as promised by the governor for the last quarter
He added that the respective reports for the committees looking into consequential adjustment for monthly pension and contributory pension scheme would soon be submitted to the State Government through the office of the Head of Service
The State NLC Chairman stressed that the issues of pensioners and welfare of workers including global deductions and other allowances would top the demands of the organized before government during the celebration of the 2023 May Day celebration, this Monday
He however commended the Dapo Abiodun's administration for ensuring payment of gross salary to workers in the state since June, 2022 in line with the Memorandum of Action reached with the organized labour while maintaining regular payment of monthly pension to retirees
