The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has expressed concern over rate of Forged Advance Level Certificates being presented for direct entry into Nigerian universities
JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede who expressed the concern in a statement issued on Monday, also announced the reopening of registration for direct entry beginning from this Monday,March 20, 2023 till April 28, 2023.
The board explained that it suspended the registration, which was scheduled for February 20, 2023 because it discovered devices and machinations to circumvent and compromise the standard of A’ level qualifications required from DE candidates.
Oloyede made reference to the concern raised by Bayero University Kano who several candidates who applied for entry through JAMB , presented fake Certificates to secure admission
According to him, out of 148 candidates verified by BUK, only 6 were found to be genuine.
The statement by Oloyede reads partly: “Recall that recent joint operations of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on DE qualifications brought to light some of these unsavoury and nefarious activities. Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has also consistently brought to the fore the high rate of forgery of A’Level qualifications for DE.”
The JAMB boss however says the board is working to identify candidates who engaged in such activities, adding that those identified are being dealt with.
Oloyode said the 2023 DE registration would only be restricted to JAMB PTCs and would also be done under strict supervision.
Commenting on the guidelines for the registration, the JAMB boss said all candidates must fill in the registration/matriculation number of the previous school attended, subjects of qualifications, awarding institution and institution attended.
The JAMB boss stressed that only candidates with NABTEB GCE A’ Level from 2015 to 2021 would be given DE admission
