Common Wealth Of Learning Holds Skill Acquisition Workshop For Learners In YabaTech

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) has organized "On Skill For Work Project Workshop" for learners
at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), and Computer Village, Ikeja, both respectively in Lagos

COL is the world’s only intergovernmental organization solely concerned with the promotion and development of distance education and open learning.

The adviser of COL, Mr. Robert Okinda and other technical experts were on ground to deliver thought provoking lectures during the workshop.

COL has been partnering with Yabatech since 2010 through the Flexible Skills Development project and the Skills-In-Demand project.

This workshop aims to enhance the Open Distance Learning (ODL) capabilities of institutions and enterprise-based Technical Vocational Education Training re(TVET); develop capacity in gender-responsive and inclusive blended learning practices; scale up outreach initiatives; and respond to market demands for green jobs.

During the visit, YabaTech and COL engaged in monitored progress on the COL-supported apprenticeship training, held advocacy meetings, and visited mastercrafts people at Computer Technicians and Engineers Association of Nigeria (COMTEAN) in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

In the course of the seminar the following topical issues were extensively deliberated upon; Monitoring and evaluation of the blended apprenticeship programme using E-Portfolio, Framework for quality assurance of the blended apprenticeship programme, Use of PLAR and micro-credentials in apprenticeship, and Use ODL for pedagogical up skilling of mastercrafts persons.

The Workshop was a remarkable and very educative and enlightening experience for all participants in the course of the 3-day activities.

Participants expressed their opinion on the need for such events to encourage more learners to gain empowerment in modern-day skills acquisition and empowerment through simplified training for every category of learners, while induction of new trainees was held in the course of the workshop.
