Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has felicitated The PUNCH on attaining the landmark year of 50 as a vibrant newspaper brand in Nigeria
Abiodun in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, eulogized the newspaper group for staying focussed as a pro-people organisation, churning out credible, fair and balanced reportage to foster good governance and protect the fundamental rights of citizens.
"THE PUNCH is not just a newspaper of record. It is a leading light in the practice of modern journalism. It has also been a principled brand that say it as it is: balanced, fair, credible news. That you have survived five decades is a testament to the managerial acumen of your management and dedication of your staff. Not a few newspapers have gone into mortality these past years while THE PUNCH continues to wax stronger daily", the governor lauded
"You editorials are known to always err on the side of the people, protecting rights and defending democracy and promoting good governance. THE PUNCH has always served as the people source of independent, investigative and reliable information and you have acquitted yourself creditably in providing the public with news and information, and to serve as a forum for different points of view on public affairs. Above all, you have been very objectivity in the presentation of news and debates that engender development", he added
"As you forge ahead into the other half of the century, it is my prayer that your brand of journalism survives and offer the pathway to a greater Nigeria as your business also continues to blossom ", the statement concluded.
