The Ogun State Chapter of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inaugurated six ad-hoc committees to facilitate the actualisation of the seven-point agenda of its new executive led by Mrs Seun Boye.
The committees include the Secretariat Development Project Committe (SPDC), Colloquium Organising Committee (COC), Journal Publication Committee (JPC), Capacity Building Committee (CBC), Protocols/Revenue and Corporate Engagement (PRACE) and Secretariat Automation/Welfare/Membership Drive Committee (SAWM).
The ad-hoc committees were inaugurated on Thursday at the first Business Meeting of the Chapter in 2023 which was held at its secretariat in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
While inaugurating the committees, Mrs Boye charged the members to work vigorously towards restoring the glory of the Chaoter and bringing her to the enviable status it was known for.
The Secretariat Development Project Committe ( SPDC) is chaired by a veteran and fellow of the Institute, Mr. Akin Okudero, with the Chapter's Treasurer, Mrs Adijat Olaleye, as the Committee Secretary.
The committee also has notable members such as the Olota of Ota, Oba Professor Adeyemi Obalanlege, Towulade of Akinale, Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, a fellow of the institute, Chief Fassy Yusuf, and Osi of Egbaland, Chief Bode Mustapha, as Elders Advisory Council members.
"The committee shall oversee the process of securing a parcel of land in a befitting location as well as seeing to the erection of a befitting Secretariat for the Ogun State Chapter of NIPR, which is long overdue," Mrs Boye added.
Also inaugurated was the Colloquium Organising Committee headed by a past Chairmman of the Chapter, Mr. Femi Dokunmu, with Mrs Yemisi Fashola as Secretary. The committee is to see to the resuscitation of Ogun NIPR Annual Colloquium and make its impact felt all over the state.
According to the Chairman, the committee's task will include reaching out and partnering with Corporate Organisations in Ogun State to generate funds for the Colloquium.
In the same vein, the Ogun NIPR Journal Publication Committee with Mr Dare Folarin as Chairman and Mr. Idrees Katib as Secretary has as terms of reference the mandate to bring back the Ogun NIPR Journal in a grand style through call for papers and proposals from public relations professionals both in practice and the academia as well as banking, telecommunications, oil and gas.
She said, "Such papers should also give priority to instances where PR had played critical roles in management and its resultant effects. This will serve as a reference point for both private and public organizations and as a source of raw materials to Public Relations Executives to further enhance their jobs".
The Capacity Building Committee is headed by Mr. Bimbo Alagbe, also a past chairman with the Chapter's current Vice Chairman, Mr. Waheed Ogunjobi, as Secretary and is expected to get full information on MCPD and Master Class Programmes including Conversion Programmes for non -Mass Communication graduates who desire to be members.
Equally of note is the Protocols/Revenue and Corporate Engagement Committee (PRACE) headed by Mr.Kola Adepoju with Mr. Bukola Akinrinde as Secretary saddled with the responsibility of organising a Guest Lecture that will address salient issues of national development, especially in relation to the role of PR.
Part of the terms of reference for the committe is to bring up initiatives that will generate revenue for the Chapter,
Liaise with Government, Public and Corporate PR bodies for collaboration and engagements.
The last but not the least of the committees is the Secretariat Automation / Welfare/ Membership Drive (SAWM) led by another past Chairman, Mr Tope Adaramola, with Mr. Tunwase Dokunmu as Secretary. Its mandate is to engage in aggressive membership drive for the Chapter by reaching out to inactive members and encouraging new ones.
