Ayomide Folorunsho of Kwara State will clash with Sodiq Kushimo of Ogun State in final of the 2023 edition of National Under 16 Tennis Championship holding this Saturday at Green Court of Abeokuta Sports Club
To reach the final of boys' singles, Ayomide dismissed Imole Adisa of Ondo State in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-4 in a semi-final game on Friday while in other semi-final, Sodiq defeated his fellow player from Ogun State, Toyosi Akinsanya who retired in the second set after a 6-1 loss in the first set
For the under 16 girls' singles final, Favour Ijaola of Ogun State and Alice Paul of Ondo State will battle for the title
Favour defeated fellow player from Ogun State, Zainab Idowu in two straight sets of 4-2, 4-1 in one of the semi-final matches while Alice beat Raimot Adeyemo of Kwara State in two straight sets of 5-3,4-1
In the Under 14 boys' singles final, Sunkanmi Oduwaye and Waliu Hamzat will battle for the title on the same day
Sunkanmi overwhelmed Akeem Olatobi in two straight sets of 4-1,4-2 in one of the semi-final matches while Waliu easily dismissed Timilehin Ewuola in two straight sets of 4-0, 4-2 in the other semi-final game
Meanwhile, Garuba Taiwo has emerged as champion of the under 12 boys' singles ,after beating Friday Testimony in two straight sets 4-1, 4-1 in a final decided on Friday
Now fewer than 52 players across the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja are taking part in the tourney being packaged by the Ogun State Tennis Association in partnership with Nigeria Tennis Federation and Rock Tennis Foundation
