Ogun Trains, Equips Officers To Boost Digitalization Of Education Sector

Ogun State Government has trained and equipped Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) and School Portals Administrators (SPAs) with computer systems and tablets, so as to ensure seamless operations and proper administration of the State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA).

The State  Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu who was speaking during the event in Abeokuta, said the training was specifically put in place to clear the grey area in OGSERA administration, noting that no school would be approved without being onboarded on the platform.

Prof. Arigbabu stated that the donation of technological tools would enable beneficiaries to develop themselves through the latest digital learning and monitoring tools, adding that they were critical stakeholders in ensuring that database for schools were updated.

He explained that technology could be used to enhance discipline, curb examination malpractices, and do away with the so-called special centres, saying “all schools in the State must be on the digital platform. You have to go out now and ensure that all schools that you have given approval to are registered on the platform

Earlier in her address, the Director of Education, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Mary Okereafor said the training would avail the ZEOs and SPAs an opportunity to get the best knowledge on how to use technology, in order to achieve efficiency in the discharge of their duties, adding that key participants in the education sector should be conversant with the 21-century technology.

In their presentations titled; Finding Information on OGSERA, Monitoring Activity Progress and Workflow and Activities, Dr. Ademola Adenubi, Mr. Francis Banjo and Mr. Oluwasegun Egberongbe submitted that various information about each school could be accessed on the platform, such as  location by Local Government Areas, number of teachers to learners, name of principal, classroom student’s ratio, learners’ distribution, the average age of student in each class and analysis about student performance.

Responding, the Zonal Education Officer, Yewa North Local Government, Mrs. Aminat Duze commended the Ministry for organising the training, saying it would improve their work outputs and  promised to ensure proper maintenance of the tools.
