Ogun State Government has threatened to punish any of the Principals in its 42 flagship schools who failed to implement the 60 students per class policy, so as to ensure better academic performance
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the warning in Abeokuta during a strategic meeting with the Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), Principals and School Portal Administrators (SPAs) of the 42 flagship schools
Prof. Arigbabu noted that flagship secondary schools were selected to serve as beacons or models for others with a manageable size of not more than 60 learners to a teacher, saying the aim was to further promote quality and ensure standard.
"If our flagship schools are going to be in the standard that we want them to be, we must control the population. if I had my way, we even wanted 40 per class, not 60", Arigbabu stated.
He enjoined Principals to develop themselves technologically, to be relevant with 21st-century teaching and administrative techniques, adding that they had the mandate to supervise and be cautious of performance in their schools.
Speaking on behalf of the Principals, the State President, All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Dr. Olubunmi Womiloju commended the government for taking good care of its workforce, pledging the support of the Principals in helping the present administration to achieve its policy.
