Hope Rises For Students Resumption As ASUU Holds NEC Meeting To Suspend Strike In Varsities

Academics Staff Union of Universities ASUU is finalizing its National Executive Counçil meeting this Thursday to ratify the decision of the lectuerers who voted overwhelmly for the suspension of the nearly eight month-old strike in public universities in Nigeria

The union, it was learnt had briefed its members on the fruitful discussion with the presidency facilitated by the Speaker of House of Representatives, Right Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila on the agreement reached for the payment of  atleast four out of the eight months arrears of salaries to the lectuerers while the remaining balance will be paid later 

Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke led ASUU is expected to take the decision on signing of the agreements reached with the Federal Government on the payment of the outstanding salaries to be paid in tranches 

The union will also discuss the agreements reached with the government on the Prof.Nimi Briggs Renegotiation of Agreements as well as the issues of the new payment platform and revitilization funds for public universities which are basis for the prolonged strike in the Universitity system in the country
