Ogun Head Of Service Calls For Required Leadership Skills To Boost Govt Services

Ogun State  Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro has stressed the need for continuous training for management staff in the workforce, so as to equip them with the required leadership skills to efficiently deliver in their various capacities and boost service delivery to the people

Aigoro brought this to the fore in Abeokuta at the commencement of a 2-Day training organised by the Bureau of Establishments and Training, Office of the Head of Service, in conjunction with the Management Studies Department of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, with the theme:  "Performance Improvement for Management Staff".

The Head of Service described the management staff as the bridge for grooming the next generation of leaders that would take over from them, saying “in no distant time, they will be appointed into chief executive posts and this called for priority attention in terms of capacity building”.

While appreciating the Governor for his administration's commitment to human capital development, Dr. Aigoro enjoined the participants to reciprocate government's gesture, with improved productivity in their various Ministries Departments and Agencies, and explore innovation that could aid self-development for a transformed Public Service.

“It is pertinent to note that the participants here are just a fraction of the total number of officers eligible for this training. It is our plan to conduct this training in batches to ensure no eligible officer is left out", the Head of Service stated.

Earlier in her address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo, said it was important to widen the knowledge of  Management Staff to boost their performances, imploring the participants to use the training for personal improvement, and to cross-fertilise ideas for the benefit of the Service and the State at large.

On her part, the Director-General, ASCON, Mrs. Cecilia Gayya, represented by the Director of Studies, who doubles as the Head of Department, Management Consultancy, ASCON, Mr. John Ayuba, assured the government that the best hands to equip the participants to cope with managerial capacities, that would make them acquire the requisite skills to perform optimally had been deployed.

One of the participants, the Director, Women Empowerment, Mrs. Wonuola Kassim lauded the State government and the Bureau for the training, promising to continue to discharge their duties diligently.
