Nigerians have been admonished to take advantage of the richness of their cultural heritage and project the economic values, irrespective of religious and tribal differences, so as to attract foreign investors into the country and further take it to the next level.
The Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Runsewe, said this while declaring open the 15th edition of the International Arts and Craft (INAC) Expo, at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Abuja, with the theme: "Networking Nigerian Crafts to the World".
Otunba Rusewe noted that the creative industry was capable of enhancing the economic growth of the country, saying engagement of the youth in crafts would reduce the unemployment rate and social vices, as well as tackle insecurity in the society.
He explained that the Expo was aimed at projecting Nigeria's crafts to various countries of the world, saying, “it will be an avenue to tell the world that our nation is a safe place to be”.
Also speaking with newsmen on the sideline of the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan, who led the State contingent, said Ogun came with innovations that the government had introduced in the production of Adire fabric and other works of art in pottery, wood crafting, cultural dance, and traditional cuisines.
He commended the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for allowing the State to partake in the event, pledging that the contingent would not let the State down.
The event has contingents from some States in Nigeria, as well as countries across the world.
