MAPOLY Lecturers Suspend Strike Over Reconstitution Of Governing Council




Lecturers at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Abeokuta have suspended their one week warning strike, following the reconstitution of Governing Council and appointment of Substantive Rector for the Institution by the Ogun State Government

Chairman of the Institution's branch of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Comrade Babatunde Osifalujo announced the suspension of the industrial action in a communique released after the emergency congress of the union held last Monday on the Ojere-Abeokuta campus of the polytechnic 

The union added that the strike was suspended in anticipation that its other demands including payment of  June and July salaries would be paid to workers and the Institution enjoys proper funding from the State Government as agreed in the tripartite meeting ASUP had with the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and management of the Institution on the 18th of July, 2022

"Accordingly, the Congress resolved that in view of the efforts and level of compliance of the Ogun State Government to fulfil their promises on: The appointment of substantive Rector for the Polytechnic, The constitution of Governing Council, andThe domestication of the Polytechnic Act (2019) in principle Thus, in consideration of the fact that the one week strike action had run its course with significant response from the Government, the Union hereby suspend its ongoing industrial action to resume work immediately in anticipation of combined prompt response to the rest of our demands and concerns", the union stated 

The union in the communique however expressed its commitment to ensuring high standard of education in the state

"We remain committed to the upliftment of education in Ogun State", ASUP concluded

The union had declared the warning strike last week, following the inability to re-constitute Governing Council and domestic the Polytechnic Act 2019 on or before 5th of August, 2022 as agreed with the State Government and management of the Institution
