Again: Ogun Assembly Summons Former DG Land Over Financial Infraction

Ogun State House of Assembly has again summoned former Director General, State Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Biyi Ismail to re-appear before it on Wednesday,  31st of August, 2022, following some unresolved financial infractions contained in the 2015-2019 audit report on the record books of the Bureau of Lands and Survey

The Chairman of the House Public Accounts and Anti-corruption
Committee, Musefiu Lamidi issued the fresh  directive in continuation of the consideration of the 2015- 2019 audit report of the Bureau, which was halted based on the fact that the former Director General took excuse during the COVID19 pandemic.

Lamidi while issuing the invitation at the Assembly Complex,  Oke-Mosan, stated that the former DG had refused to honour the previous invitation of the Committee on the ground of being abroad and had not reported back to the Committee since his arrival in Nigeria.

The House Committee noted that during its exercise last year, it directed Mr. Ismail to appear for clarifications on some grey areas, with a call for relevant  documents relating to all costlines including those containing the construction of ICT Infrastructure running into over N400m carried out in 2016 as well as the list of all non-committed acquisitions along Abeokuta-Sagamu.

The Public Accounts and Anti-corruption Committee Chairman also requested for the list of land allocation at Flowergate between 2015 and 2019 as well as that of all commercial allocation at River-View in Isheri for the same period, stating that the audit queries included wrong classification of expenditure, keeping of dormant account to the tune of N9.4m as well as lack of pre-audit checks by the internal auditor amongst others which were against due process.

Lamidi equally observed that the revenue achievement of the Bureau dropped from N10.6bn to N3.1bn, when considering 2018 against 2019 report, signifying 70% reduction from the various revenue streams, pointing out that the large reduction on the revenue was on plot allocation and layout fees which the Bureau headed by the former DG needed to clarify.

In a related development, the Committee also examined the 2020 financial report of the Ministry of Forestry as presented by the Permanent Secretary,  Mr. Lateef Benson, with a directive to the management team to furnish the lawmakers with explanatory notes on local travels and tours during the COVID'19 lockdown, register containing timber contractors and the need to explained #4.36m expenditure with the relevant supporting documents.
