COEASU Strike; FG Inaugurates Committee To Resolve Issues In Colleges Of Education

The Federal Government has inaugurated a committee to renegotiate the 2010 agreement reached with the striking members of the Colleges Of Education Academic Staff Union COEASU 

President of the union, Dr.Smart Olugbeko who made this known in a chat with Edu-biznews over the weekend, said the committee after its inauguration on the 21st of June, 2022 , began sitting last Tuesday, 28th of June  while COEASU made its submission on  Thursday, the 30th of June 

The setting up of The COEASU-FG Renegotiation Committee is one of the major demands of the lecturers in the public Colleges Of Education in Nigeria who have been on a month warning strike since 15th of June ,2022

Other demands of COEASU include

the release of the N15 billion approved out of the N456,599,691,914.18Billion revitalization fund recommended for both Federal and State Colleges of Education contrary to repeated promises of the government and the need to  begin the implementation of 2014 Needs assessment report in colleges of education.”

They are also demanding for payment of outstanding promotion arrears from 2016 to date as well as payment of responsibility allowance to Librarian in colleges of education; and implementation of the consequential effect of the implementation of CONTISS15 on Lower Cadre(a.k.a. Migration) since 2018

The union is  equally concern over what it described as poor funding of colleges of education and poor conditions across state-owned colleges of education especially in Ogun, Kwara, Abia, Kogi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe, Oyo, Benue, Edo and Ebonyi states

COEASU also accused Federal Government of insisting on IPPIS as payment platform for staff as against more reliable alternative of UTAS that captured the peculiarity of tertiary institutions and the refusal of the Federal Government to mainstream demonstration school staff in the payroll of the colleges.”
