The workers who had in the last four days embarked on the strike over the unpaid 21 deductions from their salaries and eight years of unpaid leave allowances, attacked labour leaders on Friday in Abeokuta, during an emergency congress for agreeing with the State Government to suspend the industrial action
One of the protesters suddenly slumped and died during the protest while the Chairman of the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole managed to scape from being attacked by the angried workers who vandalized some of the properties at the NLC State Secretariat at Leme area of the city
The death of the worker who slumped during the protest was said to have been confirmed by the medical personnel at the Federal Medical Centre, where he was rushed to for urgent medical attention
Before the attack, the NLC chairman had earlier told the protesting workers that the meeting with the State Government had ended in a deadlock , pleading to brief them next week Monday
But the workers disagreed accusing the labour leaders of betraying the confidence reposed in them by signing an agreement with the State Government to suspend the strike
Details of the agreement will be published by Edu-biznew later
