NSSF Trial: Lookman Adebayo Emerges As Nigerian Schools Fastest Athlete





Lookman Adebayo of Ijaiye Housing School, Lagos State has emerged as Nigerian Schools fastest athlete, finishing his 100metres race in record time of 11.18seconds at the recently concluded maiden National Trial organized by the Nigeria School Sports Federation NSSF, ahead of the 2023 World School Championship in France

Adebayo finished ahead of Ibukun Daramola of Faith Academy, Lagos State who ended the race in 11.23seconds and Kenneth Etimbo of Ritman College in third position with 11.28seconds, to complete the top three fastest athletes in the sprint event of the trial held  at Sports Complex of the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos on Thursday




In the girls' 100metres contest, Temitope Olusesan of Demostrain School, Kaduna State won the race, finishing in 12.13seconds, Oluwabunmi Israel  of Vega College Lagos came second with a a record time of 12.37seconds while Florence Naingba of CSS School, Bayelsa State finished in third position with a record time of 12.72seconds 

Peace Lekwot of Faith Academy in Kaduna State finished the girls high jump field event with height of 1.50metre, ahead of Dioup Sokhana of GSS Koro, Federal Capital Territory FCT,  Oladunjoye Ifeoluwa of Ijaiye  High School, Lagos State, in second position with height of 1.45metre 

In the high jump boys, Fiaku Goodluck of Busy International School, Anambra State emerged in top position with jumping a height of 1.85 metre, Nwafor Favour came second, jumping a height of 1.80 metre while Shiro Eniola of ISL ,Lagos jumped a height of 1.75metre 










The trial which attracted 536 athletes from 202 secondary schools across the country, also included winners decorated in the 800metres boys and girls, 400metres boys and girls, javelin, shotput amongst others field and track events 

President of NSSF, Mrs Bisi Joseph was full of praises for the athletes, describing their  participation and performances at the trial as highly encouraging

She explained that the essence of the National Trial was to ensure that only the best among the athletes in schools represent Nigeria at the World Athletics Championship, holding between May 14 and 22, 2023 by the International School Sports Federation ISSF 

Representatives of Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN, Dr. Oladayo and that of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, Mr. Fadile assured NSSF of moral and technical support, to ensure a good outing for the country's contingent at the 2023 World Championship in France
