Stop Shooting At Random- Abiodun Cautions Customs Operatives

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has cautioned  operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service  against shooting at random, urging them  to build cordial relationships with the people

Abiodun gave the charge in Abeokuta, while hosting the new Comptroller of Customs, Ogun 1 Area Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi, saying that the Service should manage its relationship with the society, as well as serve the people with a human face.

The governor stressed the need for the service to be alive to  its huge  responsibility to the society  by exhibiting high level of understanding in order to serve the people better.

"Your responsibilities are huge; the Service must find a way to discharge those responsibilities with a human face and with understanding that you are there to serve the people and that you are not their enemies. We cannot be walking into the market and shooting at random, chasing people on the expressway, motorways and endangering the lives of other road users", he said.

Abiodun was delighted with the new Comptroller's different disposition to the rule of engagement of the Nigeria Customs Service in the State, in order to
change the narrative

In his remarks, the Comptroller of Customs in the State, Comptroller Nnadi, noted that upon his resumption in office, he had embarked on a visit to traditional rulers, especially the paramount rulers with a message that they should educate their subjects, particularly those who are into smuggling, to desist from the act and ensure that they do not attack any of their men.

Nnadi disclosed that the Service under his watch is ready to change its rule of engagement and be more civil in its relationship with the people, assuring that the Command would train its men on the proper way of handling firearms
