Uncertainty Over Resumption Of OgunTEACh Teachers

Uncertainty is still surrounding the exact date, the newly recruited teachers under the Ogun Teaching Experience Acquisition Scheme OgunTEACh will be resuming for duty in the public primary and secondary schools in Ogun State

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof.Abayomi Arigbabu had last September 16 while featuring on Rockcity FM radio programme in Abeokuta, assured that the new teachers would be resuming latest by beginning of last week on completion of the redistribution  of the teachers carried out by his ministry to ensure proper distribution of teachers to address the imbalance between the number of teachers in rural and urban areas in the state

But findings by Edu-Biznews revealed that teachers were yet to resume as at closed of work on Friday, September 24

The State Government had completed its last stage of the recruitment excercise with oral interview on June 10, to select the best 5,000 among over 18,000 applicants who wrote the Computer Based Test CBT across the state in May

More than three months it is not clear when the teachers will be resuming after the commencement of the new academic session for 2021/2022

Responding to the situation, Secretary of  the State wing of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT,Comrade Samson Oyelere expressed concern over the shortage of teachers, saying teachers are being over stretched in the classrooms

According to him, most of the teachers are finding it very difficult to cope with the situation in the classrooms, because of the increasing workloads which is now telling on their health

The union called on the government to urgently address the shortage of teachers, warning that the education of the pupils will suffer for it, if nothing is done now
