NDE Trains 50 Graduates On Agric Extension Services To Boost Food Production In Ogun

 National Directorate of Employment (NDE) is training 50 selected  unemployed graduates across the three Senatorial Districts in Ogun state, to enhance their capacity in offering  Agricultural Extension Delivery Services with the aim of ensuring massive foods 

production

The NDE Director General, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo while flagging off the 5-day  "AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION TRAINING (AET)" 2021 in Abeokuta, the  State capital, explained that the training was packaged for the unemployed graduates in order to boost agricultural productivity, ensure food security and promote agriculture as an engine room of economic growth.

Fikpo who was represented by the NDE Ogun State Coordinator - Mr Bakare, Oladele Tajudeen added that the training was packaged to equip the participants with the needed knowledge and practical skills that would enable them to successfully provide  complementary Agricultural Extension services. 

The training according to him, is designed to employ experiential training model to be adopted by by specialists in the various extension services in agriculture 

He listed the  critical issues the training would focus on to include: “AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION ACTIVITIES AND ROLES OF EXTENSION AGENTS; COMPONENTS OF AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION DELIVERY SYSTEM; WEEDS AND METHOD OF WEED CONTROL; DISSEMINATION OF RESEARCH- BASED PRODUCTION/ INFORMATION and INFORMATION ON INCOME GENERATING AGRICULTURAL PROJECTS amongst others

Bakare disclosed that NDE had provided herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, as well as knapsack sprayers for the conduct of practical demonstration.

He therefore, implored the participants to strive to participate effectively so that at the end of the training, the objective(s) of the training would be optimally achieved.

Ms Oruoyehu, Beatrice who represented the Director of Rural Employment Promotion Department - Dr Mbata, Michael stressed the need for the training to enhance productivity in agriculture 

Her words , "Agricultural Extension Personnels are very few in the rural communities but their importance in boosting agricultural productivity is enormous hence the need to train unemployed youths as Agricultural Extension Personnel inform of income generating activity".
