INEC Worries Over Low Online Voters Registration In Ogun

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over what it described as very low registration in Ogun State in the recently concluded first quarter of the Continous Voters Registration CVR excercise both online and physical 

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state,Mr.Olusegun Agbaje who raised the concern in Abeokuta on Thursday at a maiden news conference, said that other states like Ekiti, Ondo and Osun States with less population compared to the state performed far better

"For the avoidance of doubt as at Monday, 20th September, 2021 online Voter Registration In Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states were 414,928, 55,259 and 57,623 respectively compared to 46,937 in Ogun State while 63,259 voters in Osun State, 20,632 voters in Ondo State and 19,128 voters in Ekiti State have completed their registration compared to 12,231 voters in Ogun state", he revealed

Agbaje urged all eligible citizens in the state to take the advantage of the second quarter of the ongoing CVR which will begin on 4th of October and end on 20th of December, to enroll as voters to avoid being de-franchised in the 2023 General Election and other future elections 

"I call on all other relevant stakeholders, particularly the Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Political Party Leaders, Non Governmental Organizations, Market leaders, youth groups, women groups, artisans and most importantly the media who has the power to reach out to a very large number of eligible citizens across the nooks and crannies of the twenty (20) of the State to step up their ongoing efforts geared towards sensitizing the people on the significance of the CVR exercise to further boost the level of participation in the state", he urged 

The immediate past Resident Commissioner in Osun State, reminded eligible Nigerians to pre-register through the INEC online registration portal https://cvr.inecnigeria.org or https:inec.gov.ng before visiting any INEC Registration Centre at the state in Abeokuta or any INEC LGA office to complete the process physically

Agbaje who replaces Prof. Ganiyu Raji now in Osun State, listed those eligible to participate to include those who are 18 years old and above, registered voters who had problem during accreditation for the past election with their finger prints not being read by the Smart Card Reader , those who want to transfer their voting location, registered voters who want to correct issues with their data, and those who lost  their Permanent Voter Card or damage and need to replace them.
